New Build Oak Frame Home, A House with Personality

A full turnkey build project undertaken by Oak Country Buildings, with structural green oak frame and all joinery designed, manufactured and installed by our Oak Country Joinery team.

The design of the interior joinery for this project was a true collaboration between the clients and the joinery workshop (us).

We believe 'the devil is in the detail' and work incredibly hard to help our clients achieve the style and finish they are aspiring to. In this instance our clients, Paul and Louise, had a very defined and individual sense of style and it was a real pleasure for all of us at Oak Country Joinery to help take their ideas from concept through manufacture and into installation.

Louise says:

'...every small detail [was] given careful consideration by them as if it were their own project.'

Interior Doors and Panelling

Louise and Paul wanted handmade doors and panelling which would give the house 'age' and 'interest'. As well as traditional ledged and braced doors, Oak Country Joinery manufactured a sliding barn door and a hayloft door from reclaimed factory flooring, which was waxed and distressed and worked beautifully with the new feature front doorset.

Ted Todd Odyssey was selected for the bespoke floor to ceiling headboard in the Master Bedroom. The individual strips were salvaged from Javanese fishing boats and the headboard was manufactured and installed by our joinery team, creating a look that is totally unique.

As with the interior doors, our clients were central to the design of their staircase. They instructed Oak Country Joinery to manufacture a solid oak open tread staircase with a metal string and glass balustrading and they were greatly involved in the selection of the material finishes including the specification of preserved millscale on the metal string.

The result was a staircase that seemed to float elegantly while having a very honest and open industrial solidity.

Kitchen and Utility

And of course, a house like this with an open plan living space needs a stunning hand made kitchen, factory finished in a complimentary shade, around which to gather and chat of an evening.

And to finish, oak worktops create unity with the oak frame structure.

Elegant, contemporary wardrobes were commissioned for the Master Bedroom.

Sliding doors in a painted finish with routed groove detail echoing the feature front doorset were installed in front of oak veneered wardrobe carcasses complete with rails, shelves and soft close drawers, manufactured to suit our client's preference on configuration.

Exterior Joinery

All exterior joinery was specified by our client in RAL 7031 Blue Grey which created a colourful contrast to the oak frame both when we had just installed the green oak frame and also later, when the oak frame had aged a number of years on.

The Exterior Joinery Package for this project included casement windows, a feature front door and large sliding doors.

Casement Windows

Beautiful, functional and secure. Our traditional flush casement windows come with Part Q accreditation which is essential for new build or change of use installations.

Feature Front Door

An oversize feature front door created the perfect entrance. Stylish, secure and thermally efficient, our contemporary doorsets are a great addition to modern and traditional properties alike.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors provided a great way of allowing this home's relaxed open plan living space to spill out into its beautiful garden. Three sets of two door sliders gives flexibility and style to the rear aspect of the property.

Made from Sapele hardwood, and factory finished in Teknos opaque coating in our sprayshop, these high security sliders are a HS lift and slide system dressed with marine grade stainless steel hardware by Coastal Ironmongery.

Other Internal and External Joinery Images

Our joinery team thoroughly enjoyed being involved with this project and having the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge of timber to new applications as Paul and Louise requested a number of bespoke design items including oak sink stands for the bathrooms and a feature brise soleil. Please see below further images of the property and our joinery and oak framing works.
